BIOSアップデート ver.401→ver.511
x-gadgetさんで紹介されていた、CPUのスペック開放版BIOSを試してみました。
僕のWin2000環境ではブート用USBメモリの作成時にエラーが出るのだけれど、無理やり「続行」で作成可能。
コマンドラインからやって確認すべし、とコメントしてくれた方には大変感謝です。ううう、恥ずかしい。
と、いうわけで、作成時の生ログ。
僕のUSBメモリは L:ドライブ。

で、出来上がったUSBメモリからブートして BIOSを ver.511にアップデート。
アップデート完了後、BIOSメニューの "Adjust FSB Speed"で "Max Performance"を選択。
プラシーボかもしれませんが、個人的には体感できるくらい早くなってる気がします。
Firefoxの表示とかもかなりキビキビしたカンジになりました。

ただし、上記作業の反作用として、CPUファンがぎゅるぎゅる回るようになってしまいました。
CPUの速度上げたからかなぁ、と思いつつ、"Adjust FSB Speed"を元に戻しても変わらず。
てゆーか、"Adjust FSB Speed"を "Max Performance"にすると、"Adjust Voltage"で "Low"が選択不可能です。*1
個人的にはファンは回らないでいてほしいので*2、そのうち他のバージョンの BIOSを試すか、元に戻すかするかもしれません。
